Its the sign of a true fan that can sit through a movie that all the critics hate and/or made fun of or dissed completely and still thoroughly enjoy it.

I admit it. Most of the movies I enjoy have huge holes in their plots. Holes the size of semi trucks or whatever. Even movies that attempt to have plot, most times they fail in that area in favor of the slick hollywood glazing that goes into an action movie's production.

But I still enjoy it.

Underworld Awakening is one of those films. I bought my ticket fully aware that it wasn't going to be one of those films that was going to change the world. I was going to get lots of vampires, lots of lycans, an attempt at mystery, and lots of female kicking ass.

And I have to say, I had a great time sitting in the theater all by my lonesome watching Selene kick some lycan ass.

And now I eagerly await the next installment.

In other news, the baby monster's second quarter report card came home today. The monster did awesome got all 3s and 4s out of 4s. And improved in all areas. No tardy or absents either. And she's been moved up to the advanced reading level group. AWESOME!! Whee. Lol. As a reward I took her to McDonalds for a happy meal, Little Pink Boxes bake shop for a cinnamon bun and then off to the movie theater to go watch Beauty and the Beast in 3D. (I still prefer the prince as a beast instead of human, always have since I first saw it in theaters 20 years ago).

I don't know if I've ever said here, but I'm a big Legend of Zelda fan. I just found out a few days ago that there is a symphony that is touring that will be performing Legend of Zelda music. One of which will be in San Francisco. I'm very excited because come hell or high water, if I have to beg, borrow or steal, or whatever other phrase there is, I will be going to the March show in San Francisco. I'm very very excited.

My new year's goal for this year is to be organized and stay that way. So far, so good. I've bought some stuff from Target, organizers, cubes with shelves, and basket/bin thingers that are being utilized to hide my messing "organized messes".

Also, I've been perusing this NSFW site/blog/soapbox/tmblr acct : sex is not the enemy. The quotes are thoughtful and the pictures are pretty or beautiful or disturbing or interesting, depending on your view of sexuality and whats attractive and not to you.

The law office Christmas party was enjoyable. Cocktails and munchies were provided at the office where everyone gathered to socialize before boarding a Via bus to travel to our destination where our meal and show were. I won a raffle where I got the choice between tickets or a bottle of wine. I went with the wine (which I later gave to my mother because I don't drink) because the tickets were for a theater in a town I rarely go to.

My dad flew in from TX to spend the Christmas holiday at home with the family. Definitely made the baby monster's day. It was a surprise to both the baby monster and my mom, neither one knew he was coming in. He walked in that night and the kid practically threw herself at him. He spent five days at home with us. It was great to have him home. The baby monster never left his side. We dropped him off at the airport Thursday morning. Mom's driving on the way back made me queezy, as well as the baby monster.

The baby monster, excited to see Grandpa after 4 months. )

Sister made it back from Afghanistan safely and is currently back on US soil. Coincidentally both sisters have orders to go to S. Korea in May where they will stay for the next year. From the sound of things, they're both excited.

Went to San Francisco Sunday and Monday to hang out with various friends and catch up. I quite enjoyed myself, even though I was completely pooped by the time I made it home last night.

I've started the year off by using some of my pay to invest in some office supplies in an attempt to organize and de-clutter the clutter that has accumulated in, around, and by my desk. I've still got a bit of a ways to go. I'm just one of those people where piles of paper seem to grow. Its an "organized mess" and I know what I've got, I just can't find it immediately. So I went to Target and bought a couple of plastic "itso" cubes and some cloth bins, a couple of cardboard magazine organizer boxes or whatever they're called, and a couple of mesh file "in/out" organizers. So most everything is sorted, now its just a matter of keeping it in its right place and sticking to that throughout the year.

The last few weeks we turn the heat on in the morning, and turn everything off as we're leaving the house. Today, same thing, only when I got home later this afternoon, the fan was still going even though the thermostat was switched to off.

Now the damned fan won't turn off, and its just circulating the already cold air in the house. And when its switched on to heat, it just blows more air. x.x

I hate that this probably means I'll have to call someone to come by and take a look.

Cards are made, addressed and ready to go. Just need to get off my lazy ass and post them.

Spent last night and this evening catching up on House episodes. I'm really liking this season. Much more than last season.

Also caught up on Unforgettable, Grimm, The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles. Now onto Once Upon a Time, NCIS, and NCIS:LA.

I would like to get my sister a used Wii for her birthday. Gotta save up the money for that I suppose.

Next week is the office Christmas party for the law office I work at. Wondering if I can get away with wearing a dress I wore to my friend's wedding back in January for the party next weekend.

The photography store where I got the baby monster's annual pictures taken were emailed to me a few weeks ago.

I have a shitton of DVD movies I've been buying up the last few weeks. I think I shall be spending my day off on Sunday alternating between playing Zelda, catching up on TV shows that I've missed the last 2 weeks, and watching a few movies. I think my schedule will be full. Especially if I decide to bake cookies on top of all of that.

I've got cookies for co-workers, cookies for the firehouse down the street, and cookies for a friend that need to be shipped as well.

And cards! I shall be addressing them this weekend. Funny thing, I picked up a box of cards at Target for the amount I needed plus an extra one, and then today I realized that I'll be needing that extra one for one last address, so I really picked up the exact exact amount that I'll be needing this year. No left over cards for next year.

Unless anyone else would like a card with Winnie the Pooh on it, in which case, you can leave your screened address here: http://mmariep2.livejournal.com/273670.html

So mom got back yesterday from visiting dad in Texas. She had a good time. Apparently they played tourist while she was there.

I on the other hand had a really good time having the house to myself (along with the baby monster of course). It was really really nice to have the whole house to myself, without having to deal with her. Or her passive aggressive bullshit, or her whining about things or her inability to pay attention to anything other than issues concerning herself.

I kind of wish she'd leave again.

But the baby monster did miss her, so I guess its good she's back.

Feel free to pass by this.

I thought with the last time I had to go to court because of child support issues last year, things were pretty much settled.

Apparently not.

Just got papers in the mail today that th ex is asking to have child support re-evaluated.

It just makes me so frustrated that he doesn't call, doesn't write and doesn't visit the baby monster. Nothing. No contact, and I'm the one forced to tell my little girl that her daddy is far away working and that yes he does love her. I hate it.

And all the while he's off getting on with his life (good for him, at least its far away from me), but every few years it comes back to bite me that the only contribution he's making towards the baby monster's life is financially and even there he's trying to weasel out of it.

Why can't he just accept the amount mandated and leave it at that? I'm the one working two part time jobs with barely any days off to spend with her as it is. I'm the one involved in her education and the one to make sure she's taken care of while I'm at work, and the one to make sure she's got health insurance coverage. I'm the one holding her when she's feeling ill or scared or sad.

What's he doing?

Last year his excuse to ask for a re-evaluation was because he had a brand new baby. That's not my problem. He should have thought about all of that before he decided to have another baby on top of the previous three he's already got.

Arrrg. I'm just so angry. Things were going reasonably well. I was getting by, making ends meet by pulling those strings as tight as I could. Managing. And there the papers are in the mail.

I resent having to take the time to fill out the papers, gather the documents and take time off from work in the future just to show up to court and listen to his sob story that boo hoo he can't afford to pay child support. Not my fucking problem you sorry excuse.

Now if he were participating in her life some other way, it'd be a different story, but whatever.

I posted a while ago that my sister is in Afghanistan at Bagram (sp?) AFB and will be there for six months. My dad has been looking for a job and shooting off emails to just about anywhere. He was offered jobs in Oklahoma City, San Antonio Texas and just recently Afghanistan at..... you guessed it Bagram AFB. He's going to take the job at the AFB, so he'll be leaving in about two weeks or so.

In other news, I've finally set up a payment plan with my very very delinquent school loan collector. After a brief bout of humiliation (because they did call me at work and threaten to garnish my wages) and some contemplation with allowing myself to become depressed, I've managed to set up a payment plan that I can afford on their rehabilitation program. In a ten months they'll reverse my "in collections" status and put it current. I figure in about five years (or hopefully sooner) I should have all my bills paid off and I will have finally crawled out of the hole that I jumped into when I was with my ex.

Next week, Monday, is July 4th so I'll have that day off. I've agreed to allow the baby monster to have a couple of friends over Sunday night for a sleepover. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to that or not, but I know the girls are.

I must also remember to call the baby monster's friend Mariposa's parents and invite her over for a play date since I ran into Mari's dad at the grocery store and said I'd call.

Summer break is already half over and she'll be going back to school on August 15th.

The baby monster slept over at her friend's house just down the street, and today was a holiday, so no work. That means I got to sleep in as late as I want to.

I expect this week to go by fast, but there's a lot going on. Its payday week, so of course that means all kinds of errands that have to be done, including shopping, paying bills, and being sucked dry for gas money.

The baby monster has her kindergarten graduation assembly on Thursday, and I'm chaperoning the kindergarten class' play date at the park on Friday.

To make up for lost hours at work, I'll be working all day Wednesday. NOT looking forward to it, but I do need the hours.

Last week was one of my friend's birthday, and they had a dinner celebration at this Thai restaurant. There were a lot of people who showed up, and the food was good, and it was good to catch up with a few friends I hadn't seen in a while.

I'm 29 and a single parent, still digging my way out of debt that I jumped into with bad mistakes while I was with my ex. I have a BA degree which I haven't managed to apply to anything that I thought I was going to while I was in college.

Two of my co-workers are younger than me. One is 25, engaged and just purchased her first house.

My baby sister just got married.

My other baby sister is a surgical technician, and after she gets out of the service will have a career in a pretty interesting field with lots of options in front of her.

I know I really shouldn't compare my life to others because different experiences will create different outcomes and such. I suppose its just something that's been really bugging me lately.

I'm a bit annoyed also, that I'm still living paycheck to paycheck and at this point in my life, I guess I thought I wouldn't be.

Friday was the baby monster's field trip to the fair to visit all the animals. They'd been learning about farm animals all month and so this trip was to top it all off.

It also happened to be the first field trip where I got to be chaperone.

The trip did not start off well. The bus driver was late that morning, so we left late that morning. And then on the freeway, I guess she couldn't make the turn off (or she got lost), so instead of taking the shorter easier way to the fair, we ended up taking a longer way there.

After we got there everything went fine.

When it was time to leave, admittedly we were late getting to the bus by almost half an hour, but even then, the busdriver was still 15 minutes later than we were. We were standing around in the parking lot next to our locked bus waiting for her to get back.

Then when we got back to town, she decided to drive through town through construction and traffic. x.x Instead of driving around all of that. We don't know what she was thinking.

But other than that, things were great.

In other news, I just saw Clinique's Repairwear serum. I want it. I've been pulled in by its advertising. I want it. But at $44.50 for one tiny bottle I'm not too sure.

  • Colored and decorated eggs with the baby monster. She was disappointed that we only did a dozen eggs. She gets such a kick out of mixing the colored eggs. Easter baskets are done as well as stuffing the plastic ones for the egg hunt tomorrow after she gets back from church with grandmom.

  • Disney channel just recently aired their latest made for tv movie, Lemonade Mouth. The baby monster and I both enjoyed it. I liked the music and she the actors. I've been playing their 7 songs almost nonstop on youtube the last week.

  • I bought Amanda Quick's new book Quicksilver. Man, has her style changed drastically over the last 15 years. Also, it took me nearly a week to read the book. Not because it was bad but because every time I'd attempt to sit and read it something would happen that I'd get distracted and have to put it down. Finally I just took it to work with me today and read it there. Finished it in four hours.

  • Finally got approved for medi-cal for me and the baby monster. That's a major load off my shoulders. Now to get the baby monster scheduled for her damn first grade required physical.

  • TuesdayI took the day off and the whole family piled into my truck to drive up the mountain until we found snow to play in. We managed that part just fine. Everyone enjoyed playing in the snow. Then we all piled back into the truck to drive back home. Afterwards, Mom, the baby monster and I had a picnic at the park, then ice cream and people watching at the mall.

Everything was great until the baby monster became ill later that night. She spent all day Wednesday and Thursday throwing up. Poor baby. She's fine now and back to eating everything in sight. I h ate when she's sick and I have to work. I'd rather stay at home with her.

Spent most of Friday in a state of frenzy.

First my truck wouldn't start. We couldn't figure out if it was the starter or the battery. After trying to charge it, and seeing everything else working, we figured it must be something else.

So my dad drove me to work and took care of contacting insurance and towing and the shop. And hour and a half later he picked me up from work so that I could go to the baby monster's school assemby to see her get an award for her writing in the school's writing festival. She won third place for first person narrative. <3 So cute!!

Then I drove my dad's celica back to work. Driving that thing was alright, not my preference though. It felt like I was practically sitting on the ground. The seat is positioned way too damn low for me.

Then it was right back out to head to the restaurant that the office had reservations at for our office lunch. We ate at this Japanese teppanyaki place. I enjoyed myself. The food was really good.

After lunch I headed back home. Turns out the truck's starter was the problem and it would cost $300.00 to get it replaced and fixed.

I didin't have much time to think about all of that, though, because I had to head right back to the baby monster's school to help out that afternoon for their Easter egg hunt party. I gotta tell you those kids are just too damn adorable. There's this little boy who is the "problem child' of the class. Apparently he's dropped off at one of the more well known local day care centers early in the morning, and they take him to school. He's got some serious behavioral problems in class apparently. And then the day care picks him up where he's there until the end of the day where the mom picks him up, and (I'm guessing) fed, and put to bed a few hours later. Barely any time with his mother. The dad is out of the picture. When the school recommended counseling for him, she agreed but said she was too busy to attend counseling with him. Poor little boy. My heart goes out to him. I just feel like snatchign him up and taking him home with me.

Anyway, the egg hunt was a success with all the kids. Too cute.

Then it was off to home to wait for the shop to pick us up form home to take us to the shop to pay and pick up my truck. Originally my dad was goign to pay using his card, but it was declined so I had to convince the guy to let me go to the bank and cash my paycheck to pay him in cash in stead. So from the shop to the bank and back to the shop to pay.

After that I used my not-brand new Droid2 phone to look up the cheapest gas prices in town to fill up my tank because from there I was driving down to Fresno (about an hours driving south from town) to hang out with my friend E and her family for the evening. Her birthday was Thursday and mine was the month before, so it was like a combination catching up/birthday type deal.

We talked for the entire time I was there, ate pizza and chocolate cake and talked some more.

And then it was another hour's driving back home.

So that was my Friday. How was yours?
